In addition to promoting cycling in Tulsa, organizers of Cyntergy Hurtland wish to use the event to support STEM education for all ages. This year a donation from the event will be made to Discovery Lab to help fund their upcoming Create the 918 interactive exhibit. The installation will be developed and curated in collaboration with the Tulsa School of Arts and Sciences (TSAS). Participants in the exhibit will be invited to help build a stylized landscape of Tulsa with raised platforms representing different areas of the city. TSAS students will build Tulsa landmarks to anchor the exhibit while children and adults can use materials at Discovery Lab to create their own buildings to fill in the space. The exhibit is scheduled to open in late February and run through March.

Cyntergy Hurtland will take place in Owen Park, northwest of Downtown Tulsa. Thousands of people were reported to have come there to enjoy band concerts, food and fireworks each July 4th for several years prior to 1909. The Tulsa Park and Recreation Department first came into being when the City of Tulsa bought Owen Park from Chauncey and Mary Owen on August 18, 1909, and Tulsa’s first City park officially opened June 8, 1910.

November 12, 2017, Owen Park, Tulsa

Parkathlon... is about Grecian Gods and Cold Beers. Basically. Okay, we’re half telling the truth. Parkathlon by Fuel 66 is an all new element at this year’s Cyntergy Hurtland. Although it has a Greek-inspired name, it’s a “hold your own” yard games in the park event for everyone. We’ll have a cornhole tournament for the more serious folk (registration required) and another area for the casual kind – including Big Jenga, life-size Connect4, and other games. If you need a snack, we’ll have food trucks and local brews. When you’re not heckling the cyclocross racers (it’s encouraged, by the way), Parkathlon can be your jam. Bring the whole fam (including dogs on leash). Parkathlon is open to the public.
